i don't really play puzzle games but this was super fun. my friend recommended it, and i was worried it would have an intense explosion animation, but it wasn't scary at all. you get to try again+no timer so it was a stress-free collection of logic puzzles!! yippee!!! the hardest one was 23 lol i don't even rmr how i solved it, just sketching them up in ms paint alongside to help me visualise. great game, looking forward to a continuation(?)!! oo-ee-oo

p.s. you could make it 39 puzzles instead of 25 :3c

I did miss an option and tried rotation in 23 and I found a glitch with this arrangement :

ys yh bh

bs yd rd

rh bd rs

I get "this code doesn't use all available symbols, it can't be correct", except it does.

This game was so fun!!! Omg!!!! Just the right amount of challenge for a quick puzzle game like this. Did have a few glitches on sameboy emulator on retro arch l, the cursor would get suck in the wrong position and id have to reset the level. IDK if thats the game or the emulator, but it wasnt too bad

I however am very stuck on level 22 ive done every combo i can think of 😭

Edit: i would have got it my first try, if i didnt mix up right and left, damn dyslexia 😂😂

Last thing I expected to see on here was Hatsune Miku and yet here we are...(peak game btw)

Really fun, and challenging! Great Game over all! :)

very cool! unfortunately, Im bad and dumb, I exploded...

O MY DAYS… IT MIKU….

This is genuinely just super fun! wish there was more, although in a way I’m glad there’s not in case it’d get old.

After browsing through a bunch of these games, I don’t feel so good! Why are all my limbs slack!? Why can’t I move my eyes!? Why can’t I move my mouth!? Is this an eternal dialogue!? I can’t see the end of the horizon— HATSUNE MIKU???

image 2 and 3

Are those the panels from Pokémon Puzzle Challenge???

i gave up playing this game, it's been 2 months but i watched more gameplays about this.

To be honest, I'm not good at puzzle (very dumb at puzzles) and i need to watch walkthrough just to get an answer. But i did like the game for some reason although i kinda didn't get the puzzle just to figure out how the manual works.

I did watch the ending. I kinda have a headache to this when i tried my best, it's still very challenging. Other than that, have a great day!

Randomly ended up on this page, I played all puzzles in a row haha!

Great game :)

Got through all the levels, brain hurts, good game!

(1 edit)

I love it! Thanks for making such a good game, puzzles always challenge me in a good way :)

I'm trying to figure out what this means and i can't solve it, I'm on level 3. But this is cute btw.

As the game progress the hints will become more disjointed. In this example the final pattern would be...

Red Star - Blue Heart

Red Heart - Blue Star

You know this because the bottom clue tells you that the right hand column is both Blue. The top clue tells you the Blue Heart goes to the right of a Star, which means it must be the top row, since the bottom shows a Heart on the left.

Since you have to use all of the 4 characters, it shows that the top right is a blue heart, and the spot below it is a plain blue square, meaning it has to be a blue character. The two uncovered characters are the heart and the star, meaning this lower right corner has to be a pink star if you know what I'm saying. Since two of the squares are blue, the others have to be pink and the shapes are already signified, making the top left a pink star and the bottom left a pink heart. Either I just gave you the answer and you can decode the process with that, or you won't understand this at all because I'm horrible at explaining stuff. Hope this helped :3

Hey so I'm making a Miku platformer on GB Studio and I want the Miku song to be the main song in the game.

I came to ask about how you made the song.

(+1)

To make the songs for HMBS I took the following steps.

  1. Find a midi version of the Hatsune Miku song I was looking to include, you can find these in a few different places online but I mostly used onlinesequencer.
  2. Imported the midi file into a program like hUGETracker to see the actual notes in piano roll format. I forget what exact settings I used, but I know I had to limit the total number of channels which rendered some midi files unusable.
  3. I would listen to the midi file and try to isolate sections of the melody that would be recognizable and would then copy and paste those into GBStudio's Piano Roll. This took a ton of trial and error with how limited the GB Audio channels are.
  4. I then tuned the settings of the various instruments section-by-section for each song to get the exact sound I was looking for.

it was overall a little janky and a lot of work, but I was happy with the result.

thanks!

Hello I wanted to ask if it's possible to receive a clean version of the main art and logo? I'm trying to create assets for this game for es-de preview but I can't seem to find the art in full.

Ah I already had that version of the art. Do you not have the full version? I've begun preparing the game assets along with steamgrid assets. I've submitted for a page to be made for it.

This is the original illustration scaled down a bit so that itch would let me upload it.

If you're creating any entries externally for Hatsune Miku Bomb Squad elsewhere, please share them with me so I can review and make sure it's all kosher.

I submitted to steamgriddb to have steam grid assets hosted for your game. https://www.steamgriddb.com/game/5494627 The submission is still being approved so you won't be able to see it at that link until it's actually approved. For my personal use I've recreated a box cover and cartridge for es-de use. There's the site screenscraper that has art assets for there but I'm not sure if they allow for itch.io games.

hi! in level 21 there is a solution that marks as wrong but is correct according to manual.

blue heart red diamond yellow heart

red heart blue diamond blue star

yellow diamond red star yellow star

i think it is something worth checking out? love the game but was very surprised by this one

aaand unfortunately i have to give up cause all solutions i can come up with do not work. such a shame cause i liked game a lot. if you dont want to patch this, may i suggest adding a skip level button? or some more clues perhaps

update: brut forced 21, but now problem in 22 - what does it mean "two red on the top right"? do you mean like red red x
    x    x   x

or like
red x x
red x x

idk maybe im the problem but i dont like how it worded

I just used ms paint to map out every viable arrangement of the colors and the given symbols, and while there are a total of 5 arrangements that would validate, only 1 of the arrangements leaves nothing to guesswork: 3-color bar on the right, 2 hearts row on the bottom, 2 stars row in the middle.  This arrangement gives 2 shapes for each color and 3 unique open colors.  The other 2 arrangements each leave 2 pink squares with no definite given solution.

short and sweet game, made with love. hatsune mikuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu <3

Really loved this game! Was very fun to solve the puzzles. Simple concept but very well made!

It's neat! Had to bring out excel for a couple of puzzles, got very stuck on 23, but managed to finish in about an hour and a half (I'm slow)

Thank you for the game!

(+1)

I always love to hear what tools folks used to help them map out the puzzles. I was a post-it note guy during the design phase.

Most of the time for me it was piece of paper, pen and marker x)

Excel was out for 23 and one with two 2x3 colored rectengulars (can't remember which one exactly).

(+1)

Short but sweet, as long you defuse the bomb for Miku!

I finally got around to playing this on my gbc. I really like the core gameplay. I wish the game had some sort of randomized high score mode so I could keep playing even after beating it.

what a legit wonderful lil game. short sweet put a smile on mah face. ty.

This is amazing.

Great little puzzle game!
The difficulty ramps up nicely without ever feeling impossible, lovely stuff :)

(+1)

Glad you enjoyed it. The core mechanic is actually based on a puzzle from Neopets, but since that is always 3x3 I had to spend a fair deal of time figuring out how to teach folks before with smaller puzzles before dropping them into the deep end.

Thank you for this game really enjoyed although still figuring for the right code lol

Glad you're having fun! Feel free to reach out if you need a specific hint.

Thanks

As a diehard Miku fan and puzzle enjoyer, I loved it! The later puzzles had me taking notes haha

(+1)

Glad you had fun! Maybe you can give Miku some tips to improve her note taking technique as well.

fun game! though, some of the puzzle designs make it seem like there can be multiple solutions, but that might just be me.

(+1)

I spent a lot of time reviewing them to ensure they only have a single solution. Though I wouldn't be surprised if something very cryptic slipped through the cracks.

This was basically one of the most labor intensive parts of developing the game. And I resorted to using sticky notes to help visualize it a lot of the time.

(+1)

Maybe I'm missing something, but TO ME, it looks like 21 has 5 solutions:
https://files.catbox.moe/5vha7t.webp

The attached image illustrates my reasoning.

You're not wrong, this puzzle was actually a last minute addition and probably had less overall testing.

That said only one of the proposed solution in your document has the full context to fill out from the clues available. All the others require some sort of guess.

This still breaks the conventions I set elsewhere, so definitely not ideal.

I mean... I see what you're talking about, but that doesn't mean anything for a player trying to reason through a puzzle.

Because - speaking as a player - the logic I employed could be described as... "I should put this hint here because if I put it somewhere else, it doesn't work".

And if it does work, I assume that I'm on the right track. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this way, but I'm not going to backtrack if everything fits but I don't have the full context. I'm just going to guess. Because I'm logically assuming that if I guess wrong, I'll just arrive at a solution that doesn't work in some fashion.

This logic does rely on the assumption that there is either only one solution available, or any correct solution will be accepted. An assumption that pretty much every player would have. So the situation is indeed not ideal.

It's a cool game though!

(1 edit)

Yeah I am in agreement, but sadly the genie is out of the bottle. With how many downloads the game received I would be hesitant to release any patch for a non-critical error since most people will not manually update.

This is definitely something for me to consider should I ever make a sequel or large scale expansion. In my mind it feels I have a few options.

1) Create flowcharts like yours to ensure every puzzle has no forked solution tree. Which is fair amount of work, but doable.

2) Design additional levels like this and have Miku explicitly mention "A bomb squad member never guesses, the correct solution will always have full context" however I doubt most people will read what she says.

3) Add checks for multiple orientations of symbols for puzzles like this, which is again a fair amount of work, but doable.

The later challenges were definitely a headscratcher at times. I really enjoyed the chiptune renditions of some songs!

Glad you enjoyed it! The music wouldn't have been possible without some cool folks who posted various midi charts of Miku's songs online, so I really gotta give them my eternal gratitude.
